HHS Family,

It has been a busy month at HHS!

PTSA Open House: Thanks to all who participated and organized the evening.

Distracted Driver Program: Dangers of distracted driving were presented to students. Students were able to experience the effects of distracted driving by using simulators. Thanks to the PTSA for sponsoring this program.

Pep Rallies and Incentive Bonuses: The pep rallies have been fun, and school spirit is great. At the last pep rally, we recognized over 300 students who benchmarked on the ACT last spring, or made a qualifying score on an AP History exam. Our students earned over $67,000!! Additional AP incentives will be coming soon.

Next week is Homecoming! That week promises to be filled with fun and excitement. The Student Council and their sponsor, Amber Hall, have done a great job organizing the week. They have spent many hours planning to ensure a fun and safe week. Last year’s event was a huge success, and I hope to continue the positive experience for our students.  Thanks, also, to the PTSA for their support and help with the dance. Encourage your students to participate in the activities during the week, including dressing for the “theme” days. Please remind students the school dress code will be enforced during the school day. The week will culminate with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday night.  The dance is from 8:00 -11:00 with lead out at 9:00. The dance will be held in the HHS gym. The gym will be decorated and will provide a great atmosphere for the dance.

Our goal is for all of the students to have a fun and safe week. I would like to encourage parents to talk to the students about a few topics. Student dress and dancing should be appropriate for the occasion. Both will be monitored. I want to make sure everyone is aware that alcohol use or possession is a class 3 offense. Intoxication is also a class 3 offense.  The punishment is normally expulsion, with suspension until hearing panel, for a class 3 offense. There will be a strong Police presence at the dance to ensure a safe environment. One of the officers will be in the parking lot during the night. The Student Council has plans in place to ensure that all areas are monitored, including restrooms. This week is about having a good time, but it is also about helping students make smart and safe decisions.

Thank you for help, and I hope to see you this week.
