Principal's Corner

December Letter

As we move toward the end of the first semester, I’d like to reflect on the progress we’ve made this year with the opening of the Freshman Academy. Looking back, we’ve come a long way since the beginning of school in August. I’d like to thank the students, parents and staff for their hard work and perseverance while undergoing so many changes this fall. During this transition, our focus has remained on student learning.
Looking ahead, I would like to encourage students to continue working hard and finish the semester strong. Benchmark assessments will be given December 9th-15th. The schedule is:
  - 12/9-English,
- 12/10-Math,
- 12/11- Science,
- 12/12-Social Studies
- 12/15-Make-Up day
Benchmarks are given during regular class periods and during a regular school day. Students may accept their benchmark grade as their semester exam grade if the grade is above 70 and it doesn't hurt their semester average. Check with classroom teachers, if you have questions. Students that do not meet the criteria are required to take the teacher made semester exam. The higher of the benchmark or teacher made exam will be used as the semester exam grade. Students may opt to take the teacher made exam, even if the benchmark is above their semester average. Again, the higher of the benchmark or teacher made exam would be used as exam grade. Semester exams will be given December 16th-19th. The schedule is:
- 12/16-1st and 2nd period,
- 12/17-3rd and 4th period,
- 12/18-5th and 6th period
- 12/19-7th period
Students will be dismissed at noon December 16th-18th and at 10:00am on December 19th. The goal is to get the highest grade possible, so encourage students to prepare and give their best effort.
Thanks to our great faculty and staff for their dedication. They continue to work hard to provide our students with a high quality education.
Thank you for your tremendous support during the year. All of us, together, continue the tradition of excellence at Huntsville High School. I wish you a happy and safe holiday season.
