Principal's Corner

February Message

Parents and Students:

I hope each of you had an opportunity to read the Huntsville High School 2012-13 Executive Summary recently posted on this site. As principal, I am grateful to work with so many outstanding educators and students and pleased to recognize some of them in this summary. Although this summary is in no way inclusive of all the achievements from the past year, it is a reflection of the superior academic and extracurricular climate at our school.

February is a very busy month at school. Progress reports were given to students in homeroom on Monday, February 10. These reports will show your student’s average grade to this point in the 3rd nine weeks reporting period. You are encouraged to call or email teachers and counselors for answers to any questions you may have after receiving this progress report.

February is Black History Month, and HHS is planning a variety of activities. A video highlighting the accomplishments of African Americans and made by students is being incorporated into selected classrooms. Our Student Council has a similar video playing during lunches, and the HHS news team, Panther Pause, is dedicating a segment to Black History in its next episode that students can access through Edmodo. The bulletin board in the main hall was designed to celebrate the history of African Americans.

Although we have several months remaining in this school year, registration for 2014-15 classes begins this month. Kick off for registration will be on Thursday, February 20 when our PTSA hosts a Club Fair and registration meeting for freshmen entering HHS next year. Registration sheets for current HHS students will be distributed through Social Studies classes the week of February 24th. Forms must be completed and signed by the parent/guardian. Forms will be collected through English classes the week of March 3. The Huntsville City School Course Description Guide is available online. June 1 is the deadline to make any requests for changes in a student’s course requests.

Looking ahead, mark your calendar for the popular Broadway sensation of the parables and lessons of Jesus, Godspell, presented by our HHS Drama department. Shows are scheduled for March 7, 9, 13, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8, 9 and 15 at 2:00 p.m. in our auditorium. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.hhspanthertheater.com or call 256.883.4589.

Thank you for your continued support of our faculty and staff.
