Huntsville High Community,
My name is Aaron King and I am your community’s new principal. I would like to take time to welcome everyone back to the 2015-16 school year. The Huntsville High faculty and staff have been working hard to prepare for your return! It’s going to be a great year, and we are excited to serve you!
I know that there is some stress over the new Huntsville City Schools dress code. I would like to first say that as a father of three young ladies I know that finding appropriate clothing that looks good and is fun to wear, but that also meets the dress code is challenging. I would like to take the time to apologize for how late the dress code went out. We sent it out the same day it was received. I and my team are charged with its enforcement and we will do so with care, compassion, and common sense. I have instructed my team to focus on those who are blatant offenders and have no intent of trying to follow the dress code. I have also instructed my team not to be overly critical of students. If it is a close call then we are going to side with the student and give the benefit of the doubt. Intent is important to me and my team.
If you are a newcomer to the Huntsville High feeder pattern please join us in the Freshman Academy cafetorium tomorrow, Monday August 3rd at 1:30 pm. We will have a brief presentation and then conduct tours of the campus.
Also tomorrow we will have a make-up computer pickup day. This will take place from 4 pm to 6 pm in the library. Parents must complete infosnap online registration before they or their student will be permitted to pick up their computer.
This Tuesday August 4th is the first day of school! Here is how it will go. All students should arrive no later than 7:45 so that they may enter class by 8 AM. As students arrive they should go directly to their homeroom classroom. Homeroom rosters will be posted throughout the academic buildings. From there, teachers will take attendance, collect any paperwork that needs to be turned in, and re-issue schedules to all students. If a student’s parents have not yet completed infosnap then the student will be sent to the small gym where staff members will assist them. Students who have registered will continue on to their classes as scheduled.
Students, please enjoy the last day of summer vacation and come to school on Tuesday rested and ready to start this year off on the right foot! We look forward to seeing you. Thank you!
Aaron King, M.Ed.
